We encourage positive behavior throughout the school and in my classroom as well. The students and I make a list of class rules at the beginning of the year that we discuss and sign. We discuss the rewards of making good choices and the consequences when good choices are not made.
Our "stick chart" has a pocket for every student. They each start the day with 2 sticks in their pocket. Every time I or another teacher catches the students doing something right, making good decisions or using SOAR behavior, they earn another stick in their pocket. The goal is to have at least 5 sticks in their pocket at the end of the day. If they earn 5 sticks they go home with a super star stamp, 4 sticks earns them a smiley face stamp, 1-3 sticks a check minus and 0 sticks at the end of the day will either get a note home or a phone call so you will be aware of what happened. The students who have at least 4 superstars and no days with a check minus in one week will earn "Fun Friday." We have lots of fun by having dance parties, playing games or creating an art activity.
